When you think of a bride, what comes to mind? For most, it is an image of a woman in a grand, beautiful white dress. That, however, was not always the case, and still is not in some instances.
For most of history, brides rarely purchased a dress specifically for their wedding day, wearing instead the best dress that they owned. The color of said dress was usually not taken into account. The 1840 wedding of England’s Queen Victoria and Prince Albert is considered the point in history where white became the standard color for wedding gowns. This standard continues to this day, but women are more open to expressing their personalities on their wedding day, and color can be a perfect way to do that.
While white and ivory are still the most popular colors for a wedding gown, champagne and blush tones have gained popularity in recent years. These color options are more subtle and look good on a variety of skin tones.
There are also less traditional options where color is concerned. You can add splashes of color with your jewelry and accessories, or on your dress itself. Dip dying the bottom of a dress adds just a touch of color, and can be as bold or as subtle as you like.
You can also choose a soft pastel color, like lavender, pale blue, or even mint.
You can also buck tradition completely and go with a bright, bold color, like red or yellow.
Add some sparkle to your affair with a metallic dress.
Prints can add a touch of soft color or a pop of brightness.
You can also go a completely opposite direction, and add drama and glamour with a black dress.
Whether you choose to go the traditional route and wear a white or ivory dress, or express yourself with a colorful gown, you should feel beautiful and like the best version of yourself. Don't be afraid to try something different!
