2015 IN REVIEW

It's been a great year for us here at The White Dress Boutique. We've been privileged to help over 100 beautiful brides find their wedding gowns this year, and it has been an absolute blast. As we bid a fond farewell to 2015, we thought we would look back on some of the highlights from this blog and from our Pinterest page.

First, a look at our top blog posts of 2015:

1. 20 Memorable Movie Dresses

The romance of movies and weddings go hand in hand. From the early days of cinema to modern motion pictures, the wedding has played a large part in movies and story telling. This post highlighted twenty of the most memorable wedding gowns from films from the past 90 years.

Our Let's Talk About the Dress series of posts offered some insight into the different parts of a wedding gown that brides need to know and think about when finding the right dress for them. The neckline of a dress is definitely something to consider, so hopefully this one was (& will continue to be) helpful.

Our very first Wedding Trend Tuesday post is also our most viewed. Wedding Trend Tuesday posts highlight a current wedding trend and are full of beautiful photos (thanks, Pinterest!) of that trend. Look for many more trends in 2016!

Aww, our first post... We started this blog at the end of May to engage with, entertain, and inform our customers and world wide web friends. We hope that you have enjoyed it as much as we have and that you will continue to visit us here next year for more tips, trends, and tricks - and fun!

We like to share. Sharing is good. So, we shared this amazing infographic that illustrator Shireen Baker created for Fairmont. We will be on the lookout for more super cool things to share with you in 2016.

Pinterest is a fabulous tool when it comes to planning a wedding, which is why we love it! Here are our ten most viewed and repinned images from this year:

We hope you had a great 2015! Thank you for letting us be a part of it. We look forward to an exciting 2016 and wish you all a very happy new year!

WEDDING TREND TUESDAY - WEDDING CAKE ALTERNATIVES

As the famous expression goes, "Let them eat cake!" But, what if you're not too fond of cake? Luckily, there are lots of alternatives for those of you out there that would rather not.

1. Macarons
A macaron is a French sweet meringue-based confection, commonly filled with ganache, buttercream or jam filling sandwiched between two cookies. It is mildly moist and easily melts in the mouth. Macarons can be found in a wide variety of flavors and colors, making for an interesting and unique wedding "cake".

2. Pies
Pies are a great alternative to cake, and offer a wide variety of flavors, and can be made miniature. They are also an easy thing for home bakers to make, so if you are trying to cut costs, ask a few family members and/or friends to bake a favorite.

3. Donuts
Who doesn't love a good donut? Chances are, your wedding guests do, and stacking donuts in tiers is a fun and whimsical cake alternative.

4. "Cheese" Cake
Maybe you don't have a sweet tooth at all. Maybe you want to go a more savory route. Try a "cheese" cake, which is a "cake" comprised of a variety of wheels of cheese.

5. Other Sweet Treats
There are several other alternative options when it comes to wedding cakes. Just think about what the two of you love to eat, and get creative! Here are a few more options to inspire you to think outside the proverbial cake box:

  • Waffle Cake
  • Cinnamon Roll Cake
  • Truffles
  • Croquembouche
  • Rice Krispie Treat Cake
