A while ago, we took a look at some of the most memorable movie wedding gowns. Now we will turn our attention to the small screen. When we watch TV shows, we can get attached to the characters that we invite into our homes every week, so it's no wonder that weddings happen frequently on television. Here are a few of the most well-remembered wedding dresses from TV history:
1. Laura Spencer - General Hospital
The wedding of Luke and Laura was watched by more than 30 million people in 1981, making it one of the most popular TV weddings in history. Laura's dress, with it's long, puffed sleeves, and embellished headpiece, epitomized 80's wedding fashion.
2. Joanie Cunningham - Happy Days
Everyone knows Joanie loved Chachi, and they solidified that love when they tied the knot in the Happy Days 1984 season finale. Joanie wed Chachi in a long-sleeved, boat neck style gown with a long train.
3. Donna Martin - Beverly Hills, 90210
When on-again-off-again couple Donna Martin & David Silver finally made it official, the bride wore a classic strapless gown with beaded bodice. She finished the look with a sparkly choker and classic french twist updo.
4. Monica Gellar, Phoebe Buffay, & Rachel Green - Friends
At some point during Friend's ten seasons, each of the women had a wedding or almost wedding. Rachel Green was introduced in the pilot episode wearing a lace off-the-shoulder gown after she left her intended groom at the alter. Monica opted for a satin trumpet gown when she wed Chandler, and the more eccentric Phoebe wore a lavender, satin corseted gown. There is also the classic episode where the ladies lounge around the apartment in wedding gowns.
5. Charlotte York & Miranda Hobbes - Sex and the City
While Carrie was married in the film version of the Sex and the City franchise, Charlotte and Miranda both had weddings during the duration of the television series. Charlotte actually got married twice on the show, first to Trey, in a princess ball gown, and the second to Harry, in a more fitted gown, with off the shoulder flutter sleeves. Miranda opted for a non-traditional wedding & wedding gown, tying the knot in a with Steve in a community garden while wearing velvet burgundy suit.
6. Lily Aldrin & Robin Scherbatsky - How I Met Your Mother
The ladies of How I Met Your Mother both looked gorgeous in their wedding gowns, but they were quite different. When Lily married Marshall, she opted for a strapless, satin ball gown with beading and a bow detail. For Robin's wedding to Barney, she went with a chiffon and tulle mermaid-style gown with elbow-length sheer sleeves and beaded belt.
7. Pam Beesley - The Office
Fans of The Office waited five seasons for the wedding of Pam Beesly and Jim Halpert, so anticipation was high. Expectant mother Pam wore a flowing chiffon gown with an empire waist to hide her baby bump.
8. April Kepner & Isabel Stephens - Grey's Anatomy
Among the numerous weddings among the staff of Seattle Grace hospital, two stand out above the rest. When Izzie Stephens found out she had an incurable tumor, her fellow doctors rallied together to give her and Alex Karev a dream wedding (that Izzie had actually planned for Meredith and Derek). She looked radiant in an ornate, beaded ball gown. Jackson Avery interrupted April Kepner's wedding to paramedic Matthew, who she ended up leaving at the alter to run away with Jackson. It was probably a good thing that her A-line dress with sheer sleeves allowed for lots of movement.
9. Edith & Mary Crawley - Downton Abbey
Sisters Mary and Edith Crawley don't have much in common, but they both looked resplendent in their wedding gowns, as did their cousin Rose. The period costumes were always a feast for the eye on Downton Abbey, and when there were weddings, even more so. Mary's satin and lace long-sleeved gown and flowing veil were stunning. Rose chose a gold tone beaded number for her nuptials. And Edith finally got her happy ending in a stunning lace gown with a shorter hem line, common in the 1920's & 30's.
10. Leslie Knope - Parks and Recreation
After deciding to ditch their original plans and spontaneously get married at a special event for Pawnee, Leslie Knope and Ben Wyatt had to scramble to get everything ready. Leslie sent her best friend and beautiful tropical fish, Ann Perkins, to finish her wedding dress that was being made. Using newspaper clippings and other meaningful documents to construct a skirt, Ann finished the dress and Leslie wore it to wed Ben in the Parks & Rec offices in City Hall.
